Chris Eubanks is blunt about Jannik Sinner’s latest move

Jannik Sinner has received praise for his decision to replace outgoing coach Darren Cahill with Swedish coach Magnus Norman. The Italian has officially announced his parting ways with the Australian “super coach,” and starting in 2027, he will be working with Stan Wawrinka’s former coach. “I think it’s a perfect match. A perfect mix, truly perfect. When I saw it, I thought: it makes perfect sense,” said former American tennis player Chris Eubanks on the Big T podcast.

“In my opinion, off the top of my head, who would be a great coach to fill that void? Magnus is perfect. I think he and Darren have different styles, but they’re both very calm, relaxed, and positive people. Just look at what Magnus managed to do with Stan Wawrinka and how he managed to change certain things.”

According to Eubanks, the synergy with Vagnozzi will be essential: “Darren Cahill has always said that Simone was more of the technical coach—the one who, you know, if something changed in his serve or his forehand or backhand, that was kind of Simone’s area, while Darren was more of a tactician and gave him good vibes, putting him in a great mental state”.

“I tend to think that Magnus will try not to completely copy Darren’s style, but to fill that gap—without coming across as overly technical—by saying instead: ‘Hey, from a tactical standpoint, this is something you can do, but I’m really excited to see the team do well.’”

“It’ll be interesting to see if we can make any tactical or technical adjustments to Sinner. Personally, I don’t think so, because when he’s in top form, he’s probably the best player in the world.”
