Brindisi, Nando Marino sends message to opponents
Nando Marino speaks
The president of New Basket Brindisi indulged in an interview with La Gazzetta di Brindisi where he analyzed the good win against Reyer Venezia after the disappointment in the EuroCup.
“We return to smile in the sense that victories always help and this one, however, has a double value, for two very specific reasons,” Marino explained. “The first: the strength of the opposing team. Venice is the third biggest budget in the A series; it is a strong team with different ambitions from ours and was fresh off an important Eurocup win against Brescia. The second satisfaction comes from having found an extraordinary team group and this is what we have been preaching since September.”
“This team, with its aggressive defense and choral play without individuality, can be disliked by the whole league,” he stressed. “If, on the other hand, it plays by approaching games as it did with Pesaro, with Bologna and in the Cup, it will not make important paths. The work on defense, with the changes from man-to-man to zone defense, has confused a coach and experienced players like those on the Venice roster. It is proof that this team has in its DNA an ability to alternate those two modes of defense because they are better suited to its characteristics.”
“We would be safe for the 11th consecutive year if the championship was over right now. The path is long, however, we have two very difficult away games against teams of the same level as us, who are also playing for the goals of permanence and a place in the sun, which can be Final Eight or playoffs. We have away games in Trieste and Treviso and the home game against Scafati. After the home game with Scafati we will be able to understand what kind of team we have and what kind of season may be in store for us going forward,” concluded the president of the biancazzurri.
