NBA, Donovan Mitchell in history: 71 points!
Legendary performance for Cavaliers guard
As many as eleven games played in the NBA night between Monday and Tuesday, but the attention of the insiders is all for Donovan Mitchell: the Cleveland Cavaliers’ guard in fact produced a legendary performance against the Chicago Bulls, signing 71 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds in the game won in overtime with the final score of 145-134.
It was the eighth-best individual performance of all time (still unapproachable is the 100 points scored by Wilt Chamberlain in 1962, an all-time record), the best since Kobe Bryant scored 81 points in the January 2006 showdown between his Los Angeles Lakers and the Toronto Raptors. Mitchell, by the way, is the first to add at least 10 assists to a run of 70 or more points.
In the night’s other games, the New York Knicks beat the Phoenix Suns 102-83, a 43-point, 11-rebound LeBron James led the Lakers to an outside win over the Charlotte Hornets (121-115), the Indiana Pacers topped the Raptors 122-114, Joel Embiid made 42+11 rebounds in the Philadelphia 76ers’ 120-111 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, the Brooklyn Nets swept the San Antonio Spurs winning 139-103, Luka Doncic continued his magical moment (39 points, 12 rebounds) in the Dallas Mavericks’ 111-106 win over the Houston Rockets, the Minnesota Timberwolves surprise the Denver Nuggets 124-111, a 54-point Klay Thompson leads the Golden State Warriors to success after two overtimes against the Atlanta Hawks (143-141), the Portland Trail Blazers get rid of the Detroit Pistons winning 135-106 and, finally, the Miami Heat beat the LA Clippers 110-100 with 31 points and 13 rebounds by Bam Adebayo.
