Marc Marquez downplays contact with Pecco Bagnaia
Marc Marquez, fifth in the Sprint Race at Le Mans, was the protagonist of an overtaking move on Pecco Bagnaia that caused discussion, arousing the anger of the Ducati team that would have wanted a penalty for the Spanish centaur. The Honda rider is not of this opinion: “I said it yesterday in the Safety Commission: all the incidents there have been this year have been race contacts, except mine in Portimao, which should have been penalized – he stressed to the microphones of Sky Sport – we are in MotoGP, and these are the races. Today nothing happened: I overtook and Pecco closed. He knew he was going faster. One overtakes in the straight and I overtake in the corner, because in the straight I can’t. The speech is clear, this is MotoGP, we are not dancing. The stewards noted what I was saying, but we are riders. Fim and Dorna have to figure out what direction they are going to take, whether to decide that overtaking should be completely clean or not. It is one at the top of these federations that has to decide, not us riders. For me, everything has to be more permissive, because if we start giving so many different penalties we will never end up talking about penalties. We are here to talk about MotoGP and the show.”
“Today and yesterday I felt good with both frames, and today I felt even better without touching anything on the bike. It’s like in Malaysia between the first and second day, I felt the same step, and that’s important. I, however, don’t look where the second Honda is, I look where the first one is. We have to work on the gap that was there from the leader which is 4 seconds in this race,” Marquez concluded
