Lorenzo Musetti bows to Carlos Alcaraz
Nothing to do for Lorenzo Musetti in the round of 16 at Roland Garros. In fact, the Carrara-based tennis player was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in three sets (3-6 2-6 2-6) in just over two hours of play.
Oh yes, Musetti had even started well, taking an early one break lead. From there, however, the world number one strung together five consecutive games, winning the first partial 6-3. In the second set it was again a Murcian partial of four games to zero that ‘broke’ the legs of Musetti, who found himself down two sets. The third set was almost a formality for Carlos, who played a virtually perfect match and left few regrets for the Italian.
Musetti is the last Italian to say goodbye to Roland Garros, Alcaraz awaits the winner between Tsitsipas and Ofner in the quarterfinals.
What is now being staged is edition number 122 of the French Open, one of the four tournaments that are part of the Grand Slam, the second in order of time after the Australian Open, which in 2022 was won by Serbia’s Novak Djokovic among the men and Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka among the women.
