ATP Queen’s: Lorenzo Musetti falls in quarters in the face of Holger Rune
Match full of wasted chances was Lorenzo Musetti’s in his quarterfinal match on the London grass at Queen’s against Holger Rune. The 21-year-old from Carrara, world number 16, lost to the Dane, number 6 and a year younger than him, with a score of 6-4 7-5 in an hour and 50 minutes of play.
In the first set, Musetti saved two break points in the third game but then he was the one who snatched the serve from his opponent in the next game at the second good opportunity. At 4-1 Musetti, Rune called timeout for a wrist problem, after which he returned to the court with his wrist miraculously healed and strung together five consecutive games going from 1-4 down to win the first set.
First big chance wasted then by Lorenzo, but that’s not the end of it: in the second set the Italian on 5-4 in his favor also has the first two break points of the entire partial, which are also two set points, but Rune cancels them like a champion, the first with an ace, the second with serve and slap volley. The match is decided here because on 5-5 Rune breaks to zero and shortly afterwards closes the file on the second match point.
