Zero goals and two debuts for Italy women’s team vs. Morocco
It ended without goals the last test for the women’s national team before the departure for New Zealand. At the “Paolo Mazza” stadium in Ferrara 0-0 between Italy and Morocco in the friendly match that closed the two weeks of preparation in the Riscone retreat. The Azzurri, especially in the second half, had several chances to unlock the result, but the wall erected by the North Africans, who also qualified for the World Cup starting next July 20, held out.
“After two weeks of intense work we paid perhaps also for the lack of brilliance and a bit of tension,” said coach Milena Bertolini, “We saw things we have been working on, but especially in goal we need to be more bad and hungry, but we will get there. We played a good second half, but we need to improve in our choices, on which we made too many mistakes: we will work on these aspects until the 24th.”
National team debuts for Fiorentina’s Emma Severini and Barcelona’s Giulia Dragoni: “Matches like these are useful to gain experience especially for young girls. Both Emma and Giulia did well.” After the friendly, Bertolini will further reduce the group, which will meet in Rome on July 4 to fly the next day to Auckland, the venue that will host the national team for the group stage (debut on July 24 against Argentina). Having disposed of the long journey and time difference, the first training session on New Zealand soil is set for July 8; two days later the list of the 23 players who will take part in the rainbow competition will be made official to FIFA.
