Bormio Downhill: Mattia Casse è confident, Dominik Paris starts from scratch

Aleksander Åmodt Kilde is taking measures at the Stelvio and set the best time in the second time trial ahead of the Bormio (Sondrio) downhill on Thursday, Dec. 28. On an increasingly icy slope thanks to the work of the organizing committee, Kilde stopped the stopwatch on’1’52″26 ahead of Swiss Nils Hintermann by 0″32 and Canadian Cameron Alexander by 0″37, with Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin setting the fourth fastest time (+0″38) after setting the best benchmark on the first day of practice.

Mattia Casse è confirmed himself as the best of the Italians also in this second timed test: tenth time for him at 1″01 from Kilde, in the wake of Marco Odermatt, ninth at 0″96. "It’s a really demanding, icy Stelvio – he told FISI, at the end of the test – I’m getting better and better, I’m confident. Now the’goal è to trust more and more in my corner entry, even in icy conditions. Tomorrow will be a tight race, there are many of us skiing well".

Dominik Paris pushed hard in the upper part of the Valtellina course and then crossed the finish line with the 25th time of the day at 2″25. He has already won the Bormio downhill six times in his career: "The slope è always tough, even in these temperatures. The victory in Val Gardena gave a lot of confidence, but tomorrow will be a’different story, we start from scratch. Thereà to attack: on a track like thisì anything can happen".

The Bormio downhill è scheduled from 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28, while the Valtellina stage will conclude on Friday, Dec. 29 with a super-G.
