Australian Open, Matteo Berrettini withdraws from tournament
Another stop for Roman tennis player: foot problem
Another stop, the umpteenth for Berrettini. Just hours before his Australian Open opener against Tsitsipas, the Italian has let it be known that he will not be in the match. The Italian tennis player, struggling with a foot problem, has decided to withdraw from the Slam. In fact, the same foot that, last August, had been fatal to him during the US Open. A withdrawal that further complicates Berrettini’s path.
"Matteo Berrettini has è withdrawn from the tournament due to a right foot injury. He will be replaced on the board by Zizou Bergs. We wish him a speedy recovery", the official statement of the organizers of the Australian Open to confirm the forfeit of the same Roman tennis player. In short, to see Berrettini back on the court (in perfect physical condition) we will have to wait again.
Clearly, this umpteenth stop, makes an uproar, if we consider that, in fact, Berrettini has not played since last August (August 31 the official date of his last match). The many, too many physical aches and pains are affecting him greatly, preventing him from returning to play and trying to see if è he is still capable of reaching the levels, lofty, of 2021 (finalist at Wimbledon).
