Jannik Sinner triumphs, Rai isn’t there: RaiSport CoR protests
The CoR of RaiSport protests
The Editorial Board of RaiSport has issued a statement complaining about the lack of coverage of one of the most important feats ever in Italian sports, Jannik Sinner’s triumph at the Australian Open, thanks to a comeback final win Sunday over Russian Daniil Medvedev.
"Rai and RaiSport,” the note reads, “did not see fit to send a colleague to witness an exceptional feat, causing the Public Broadcasting Service to miss an expected contribution. Among other things, they could have been helped by an important precedent, that of the 2010 Roland Garros final, when Viale Mazzini decided on the spot to purchase, then too from Eurosport, the women’s final won by Francesca Schiavone over Samantha Stosur. Thus offering on live television and free-to-air the historic feat of the Milanese tennis player".
"It will be said; other times, è true. Now the’company has to save money and rationalize costs, but in front of such an event you can’t back down. If the fee cost for live television was exaggerated and out of reach, at least a colleague in Melbourne could and should have been sent. Unfortunately, we say this with enormous regret, yet another missed opportunity" concludes the statement.
