Giovanni Carnevali reveals background on Berardi’s failure to land at Juventus
Jiovanni Carnevali returns on the Berardi-Juventus deal that never went through
Despite having his bags in hand almost every summer for the past few years, Domenico Berardi è always remained at Sassuolosince his arrival back in 2010, back in the youth days. Of the unfortunate symbol of the neroverdi's epic in Serie A, failed due to a serious injury, spoke Giovanni Carnevali, Sassuolo’s CEO and general manager.

The Neroverde executive, in particular, unveiled a backstory on the missed landing of Berardi at Juventus when it was all done, at the time when Beppe Marotta was directing the Bianconeri’s market operations: "When Marotta was at Juventus we had found an agreement for Berardi, but then the player made a different choice. It was not a renouncement to the Bianconeri, but a willingnessà to stay at Sassuolo trying to play for something important".
Carnevali è still very fond of the striker, whom he hopes to find in the shortest possible time on the field again after the Achilles tendon injury: "Domenico è a special boy – he recalled -, I remember when he scored four goals against AC Milan and Dr. Squinzi returning to the locker room said to him: 'But all of them today you had to do them? '".
From Sassuolo to the national team, the parable of Berardi
Class of 1994, originally from Cosentino, Berardi è arrived at Sassuolo in 2010, joining the Allievi neroverdi. he made his debut in the first team in the 2012/13 season, the one of promotion to Serie A that came after winning the cadet championship. He's the only player, so far, to have played at least one game in every season Sassuolo has played in Serie A.
His performances in neroverde have earned him numerous call-ups to the national team, where (as of March 2024) he has played 28 times with 8 total goals and the icing on the cake of the European Championship won in the summer of 2021. This year, however, injury will prevent him from taking part in the continental review in Germany.
