Marc Marquez has his say on the Pramac revolution
Marc Marquez at the end of the first day of the Dutch Grand Prix at the Assen circuit set the sixth fastest time, which earns him direct entry into tomorrow’s Q2. But the’topic of the day è the transition of Pramac, his current team, from having Ducati bikes to Yamaha bikes from 2025. Here are the words of the star rider from Cervera reported by the Italian site of motorsport.com.
“È it is true that, as a Ducati rider, I would have preferred Pramac to stay, becauseé we would have had two more Desmosedicis on the track and more information becauseé è an important team within the brand. As a MotoGP fan, I think this is good news. Selfishly, I prefer two more Ducatis on the track, but as a fan it was a normal passage to think that one of the Ducati teams would go with Yamaha. For the championship è it is better to have four Japanese bikes, two less Italian bikes… Less single-branding opens moreù options to other manufacturers, riders, sponsors…”.
“I have the same bike as Alex (Marquez, ed), Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio, which è the one from last year. È a bike that goes very well, I don’t know how much better or worse than the 2024 because’ve not tested it. But you know, there are GP24s, which are those of Pramac and the official team, and GP23s, which are those of VR46 and Gresini. I feel very good with the bike and I have proven, as well as other riders, to go fast”.
“They have brought me an improvement, you can’tò know which one, but è the same as they have brought to others. Ducati has a policy that is difficult to understand as a rider, because é as such you always want more. But for the manufacturer è the correct policy. That is, when a 2023 bike gets something new, it gets to everyone else as well. I think for the project it is a right policy, no matter how far ahead you may be in the rankings, you don’t have any more benefits than others”.
“È one of the issues on which Gigi è was most honest last year when I talked about going to Ducati. If I had struggled with other Ducatis I would have had the same treatment, but in case I struggled with other brands, I would have had moreù improvements. Now I am struggling with other Ducatis, my bike is fine and I have no complaints, becauseé what we agreed on is happening”.
On today’s tests Marquez added: “There are two riders who are ahead of everyone, one actually’s two steps ahead, and è Pecco Bagnaia. The ’other è Maverick Vinales, then there are some of us who are quite similar. When you get into the positive spiral, of confidence, everything comes good. You come from two consecutive wins and you come to a track where you won last year, which you like and which you also have tattooed… No doubt Pecco è in a positive spiral, everything comes out and he is going very fast. You have to endure and learn from what he is doing”.
