Carlos Alcaraz qualifies for the quarterfinals

Carlos Alcaraz è the first athlete to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon men’s tournament: the Murcian, who landed in the round of 16 after suffering not a little against Frances Tiafoe, overcame Ugo Humbert in four sets, 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. The match that promoted the current world No. 3 è lasted exactly three hours of play.

If in the first two sets è everything seemed relatively simple for Alcaraz, very different è was the trend in the third fraction, in which Humbert, number 16 in the ATP world rankings, accelerated, literally leaving the crumbs to the more highly ranked opponent and shortening the distance in terms of sets won.

The fourth fraction è intense and balanced, Humbert came close to a break that could have been very important at 4-3, Alcaraz reacted and managed to bring the number of games won back to par, before sinking the blow with a partial three games to zero that proved decisive for the final victory.

Calos Alcaraz is playing at Wimbledon as a tournament holder: in 2023, in fact, the Murcian had conquered the prestigious English tournament by beating Novak Djokovic in the final, at the end of a marathon that ended 1–6, 7–6(6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4 which definitively consecrated the talent of Alcaraz, already the winner previously of the US Open 2022 and, subsequently, of Roland Garros 2024.
