F1, new rules: goodbye to fast lap and more free 1 to young people

The point on the fast lap had been reintroduced in 2019

The FIA wants an increasingly fun and "transparent" Formula 1. Also in the light of what happened at the Singapore GP with Ricciardo who, deliberately, won the fastest lap to give Verstappen a hand in the world championship fight with Norris (RB è a "subsidiary" of Red Bull), here is where the FIA has decided on some novelties ahead of next season.

From 2025, the fastest lap will no longer giveà right to the additional point. This was announced by the FIA itself before the US GP. Reintroduced in 2019 (its origin è to be found in the years '50), the bonus thanks to the fast lap on the track is therefore, at least for the time being, retiring.

Actually, this is not the only regulatory change decided by the FIA. The other concerns Free Practice 1. Each team will be obliged to give more space to its "unofficial" drivers. Until now, there was an obligation to run a young driver at least twice in the first free practice. Now it will be changed to four times.

Each rookie will, in fact, have to run two free practice sessions in each team car, effectively replacing the official drivers four times. In this case, the decision è stems from the necessities of giving more and more space to the new champions of the future. A nice way to give as many opportunities as possible to those who have the talent to be able to race in F1.
