Varese announces Alex Tyus
Pallacanestro Varese has announced the signing of Alexander Trent Tyus, a 1988 class center who will wear the red and white jersey until the end of the season. Tyus è a player of great international experience, endowed with leadership and capable of imposing his physicality both on offense and, above all, on defense.
For him this is the second Italian experience in his career, but behind him he has many years played in European leagues, seasoned by more than 200 appearances in the Euroleague, a competition won in 2014 with the Maccabi Tel Aviv’s jersey.
Trained at the University of Florida, Tyus made his professional debut in the 2011-2012 season in Israel with the Maccabi Ashdod jersey before moving the following year to Cant’Italy, where he had the opportunity to make his Euroleague debut as well. The good figures he put up in the LBA (9.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1 stoppage average per shoelace), topped off by the victory in the Italian Supercup, brought him in 2013-2014 back to Israel, where he wore the Maccabi Tel Aviv jersey for two seasons, becoming a point of reference for the yellow-blue both on the national territory (winning a championship and two Israeli Cups) and in the European one, culminating with the success in the Euroleague in 2014.
With Maccabi he will play another two-year stint between 2017 and 2019 (in between the “Turkish” experiences with Efes and Galatasaray), before moving to Russia to UNICS Kazan (2019-2020) and back to Galatasaray (2020-2021), a formation he leaves in December for the white tank top of Real Madrid. After another year in Turkey, this time with the Pinar Karsiyaka jersey, Tyus made a name for himself in France with ASVEL, where he played his last season in the Euroleague (5.7 points, 4.3 rebounds) before another return to Russia (Runa Moscow) and Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem).
Alex Tyus has held an Israeli passport since 2012, the national team with which he also played Eurobasket 2013.
