Brescia axes Varese

At Masnago, the Lombard derby between Openjobmetis Varese and Germani Brescia ends 118-77 for the guests, who guarantee themselves the confirmation of the head of the standings after the seventeenth LBA game pending the results of Trapani, Trento and Virtus Bologna.

Germani immediately started with its foot on the accelerator along the axis formed  by Della Valle and Bilan, with the Croatian center asserting his talent and use of the pivot foot against the direct scorer. However, the hosts kept themselves afloat thanks to the dynamism of Librizzi, a splinter in the control booth, and the unquestionable qualities of Akobundu-Ehiogu on both sides of the court. Varese, dragged by an incessant cheering, makes the Biancoblu feel the breath on their necks, thanks to a triple by Alviti. Brescia, for its part, remains focused and, through the energy brought in from the bench by Dowe and Burnell, with complicità of RIvers, closes ahead by eleven the first quarter.

The second half è opened with an 8-3 partial by Germani, which, thanks to baskets by Cournooh and Rivers, forced coach Herman Mandole to pause the half, net of a triple from the’corner by Gray. On the return to the parquet, Openjobmetis clings to the whimsy and nerve of captain Librizzi, who, with two spells, writes a personal 6-0 partial, although Burnell and Ndour test the tightness of the red-and-white rearguard. The guests, despite turning up the volume of defensive intensity, suffer from the raids of Alviti and Librizzi in the basket, constant thorns in the Brescian side. Germani does not flinch, finds the square of the circle and returns to the locker room with a lead of 18 points.

The third period è scattered by four points from Bilan, good in the’use of the pivot foot to evade the marking of Akobundu-Ehiogu, who, in turn, along with Alviti and Librizzi keeps alive a glimmer of hope for Openjobmetis, although Della Valle and Bilan try to dig a major groove on the scoreboard. Coach Herman Mandole, hoping to turn things around, spends a timeout. At the resumption of hostilities; Germani continues to express its basketball and the respective flow of offensive play, which produces, in favor of the white-blue, high percentage open shots, with Dowe, Cournooh and Della Valle leaving nothing on the table, projecting Brescia on the thirty-five length lead.

The last ten minutes are stingy with excitement. Germani, strengthened by the treasure built throughout the game, especially in the third quarter, manages the lead with calmness and rationality. The Varese outfit tries to keep its remaining hopes alive with Librizzi and Akobundu-Ehiogu. Cournooh, from the charity line, climbs to 100 points and, in fact, turns off the light in Masnago.
