Roger Federer vents, “The worst hour of my career.”
Roger Federer spoke ahead of Laver Cup, last engagement before retirement
Roger Federer, speaking to the Swiss press, returned to his decision to say goodbye to tennis: “In the weeks leading up to retirement, the tension made me feel unwell, I was always putting off the decision. My manager was angry that I took so much time. After everything came out, I was better, although writing the letter took a lot of energy.”
“I decided to quit a few days after Wimbledon, in July: the knee was no longer progressing and I asked myself, what’s the point? Now I hope I’m well enough for Laver Cup doubles.”
2021 was a shock: “I was always far from my 100 percent, reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon was incredible, but the last set against Hurkacz was difficult, one of the worst hours of my career. The future? I would like to play some exhibition matches, I think I still have a chance to fill stadiums.”
