Inter overwhelmed in Monaco: the Champions League is PSG’s

In Munich it was definitely not Inter&#8217s night. Like two years ago in Istanbul, the Nerazzurri&#8217s march toward winning the Champions League ended with a defeat in the final act, this time, however, 5-0 in the presence of PSG and with far fewer regrets, except that of having been far less effective than expected, both offensively and defensively, than in the 2023 final against Manchester City.

After the very first skirmishes, Luis Enrique’s team got on the board and on 12′ took advantage of the first real chance of the match: the combination between Vitinha and Doué sent the defense into a tailspin for the yellow-shirted occasion, Hakimi was free in the middle of the area and struck, making it 1-0. The Moroccan national, a former Inter player, prefers not to exult.

Just 8′ pass and the doubling arrives: lightning fast restart of the Parisians that catches the Inter defense off guard, Kvaratskhelia serves Dembelé who in turn finds Doué free, with the ball kicked by the latter finding the unfortunate deflection of Dimarco and stuffing it behind Sommer. Inter’s reaction is all in a header by Thuram, on action from a corner kick, at 38′, but it is still PSG that comes close to scoring, at 44′, with Dembelé skimming the crossbar.

In the second half, Inter continued to struggle and the entries of Zalewski for Dimarco and Bisseck for Pavard at 54′ were not enough, nor those of Carlos Augusto for Mkhitaryan and Darmian for Bisseck, who was immediately injured, at 62′: PSG dropped its third with Doué, on an assist from Vitinha, at 63′ and ten minutes later made it 4-0 with Kvaratskhelia, who took advantage of Dembelé’s filtering pass to take time from the Nerazzurri defense and beat Sommer again.

The last few minutes are a mere final passer-by for Paris Saint-Germain, which, however, before the final whistle goes once again to score, with Mayulu (who had taken over shortly before for Fabian Ruiz) at the 87’87’. The Parisian club, therefore, wins the Champions League for the first time in its history while it is the second success in the top European competition, as a coach, for Luis Enrique, who won ten years ago at the helm of Barcelona against another Italian team, Juventus.
