Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz, Murcian has clear ideas on future of rivalry

The tennis world is now at the feet of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who have split the last seven Grand Slam tournaments (4-3 record for the’Italian), clashing in the finals in June at Roland Garros, with victory for the Murcian, and in July at Wimbledon, with success for the’Alto Adige native. Speaking with ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’, Alcaraz showed that he has clear ideas about the future of the rivalry, on and off the court.
“Tennis is a particular sport – said the Spanish tennis player, about two years younger than Sinner – which allows them to be great rivals on the court and, at the same time, to respect each other. Me and Sinner are good friends, we can talk about many things off the court. I have great respect for him, he is a nice person, I am sure we will always be able to maintain this relationship”.
Alcaraz also spoke about the moment in the Wimbledon final when he turned to his staff almost dejectedly, explaining that he could not come up with countermeasures against Sinner: “That’s what I really thought at that moment. Jannik was extraordinary – confirmed the Murcian -. I gave what I could, and anyway I am happy with the route I took”.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have already met 14 times in their careers, 13 on the major circuit and once at Challenger level. The tally is 9 wins for Alcaraz (8 on the major circuit) against 5 for Sinner, who, however, at Wimbledon managed to break a losing streak of 5 consecutive knockouts in direct encounters.
