It is a belligerent Carlos Alcaraz who is about to make his debut in the Cincinnati Masters 1000: “I am happy with what I have done so far and I will try to continue in the same way. There are still many things I want to add to my game to do even better during matches, but for now the goal is always the same: to be happy, to enjoy my time both on and off the court during what are the most beautiful tournaments in the world. Then, of course, as far as the court is concerned, the goal for the second half of the season is to get back to No. 1 in the rankings by the end of the year.”

Clear the message Alcaraz is sending to Jannik Sinner, by whom he was beaten in the Wimbledon final, the first in a Slam tournament in which the Spaniard was defeated. “I am really happy with how this rivalry with Jannik is growing. I think both he and I have already done great things that are destined to remain in the tennis history books. But I am not talking about the history that we are writing in tennis today; in fact, we still have a long career ahead of us to find out how far we will go and whether or not we will succeed in writing this history.”

Regarding the final lost at Wimbledon the Murcian says, “It was a new thing for which in every way you have to be ready. I would never want to lose any of the finals I play, even more if it is Wimbledon or other Slams. But I left the court serene and proud, smiling and telling myself that sooner or later a Slam final I might lose it: it has happened to everyone.”

“After that match I realized that there are still many things to improve, but it only took me a few hours, not even days. I just have to be happy with what I’m building and what I’m experiencing, and to have played a final at Wimbledon is still something great. So even though I lost it, I walked off the court proud and happy for what I had managed to do,” Alcaraz concluded.
