Magician Forrest makes opponents disappear

Scotland’s Grant Forrest (-8) triumphed at home in Aberdeen in the Nexo Championship, replicating what he had already done on the DP World Tour in St. Andrews in 2021, when he won the Hero Open.

An absolute domination by Forrest, who started the final round with a three-shot lead over Englishman Todd Clements, Dutchman Daan Huizing, and Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan. The leader was never really undermined (lead increased to 6 shots at hole 10) and lifted the trophy by a very wide margin as the runner-up, Englishman Joe Dean, closed to within four lengths (-4) on a windy but sunny day.

Forrest had already won at this level in 2021, right in Scotland, and thus confirms a curious record: his triumphs come only in his homeland. In this Nexo Championship he closed with a solid 72, despite a double bogey on the 18th, the result of an overdrive shot:

“I can’t find the words to describe how I feel. It was a difficult day, I didn’t play my best golf and I felt a lot of tension, even on the 18th, on such a complicated course. Since the beginning of the season I have always been far behind in the rankings and now everything has changed in just one week” said the Briton.
