Lewis Hamilton, endless nightmare: he is already penalized for Monza

Lewis Hamilton at Zandvoort probably experienced his worst weekend since he arrived at Ferrari, and generally one of the worst of his entire career. Having withdrawn from the Grand Prix d’Holland because of a mistake of his that also damaged the strategy of teammate Charles Leclerc, the his nightmarish Sunday did not end with the checkered flag. A few hours later, in fact, a penalty has become official that will also make his next rainbow appointment, scheduled for seven days from now in Sunday&#8217s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Hamilton&#8217s further levity was consummated even before the start of the Dutch Grand Prix, as detailed in the FIA race commissioners&#8217 communiqué. “In view of the nature of the Zandvoort track, the race director had informed all drivers that double yellow flags would be displayed before the pit lane – it says there. –The regulations provide for a significant reduction in speed, but the driver&#8217s 20 km/h reduction is not significant. The guidelines would provide for a penalty of 10 grid positions in the next race, but the driver still tried to brake and therefore will have to serve 5”.

It is therefore raining in the wet for Hamilton, who was already disappointed after qualifying at Zandvoort and then retired on lap 23 of the Grand Prix d’Holland for a trivial mistake in going through Turn 3 (the same one, to be clear, made by Lance Stroll during free practice). Moreover, Leclerc had made his first tire change barely a lap earlier, consequently losing a position behind the Safety Car where he could have gained it instead.

“I don&#8220t really know what happened, the fact is that I lost the rear end and I couldn–t regain control – was Hamilton&#8217s comment when the ball was rolling -. The car remains a little bit ’ nervous, but I think in Ferrari the progress this weekend was concrete. I was catching up to Russell and with my pace I could make some overtaking moves. Then to retire from a race so early is very unusual and anything but nice, but that” but that” it happened.
