Carlos Alcaraz: "Number 1? Hard not to think about it"

Carlos Alcaraz qualified for the US Open semifinals without losing a set in the entire tournament. The Murcia tennis player also dismissed Jiri Lehecka after a match held under control from start to finish, confirming his moment of extraordinary form. The Spaniard is only two wins away from the number one position in the ATP rankings, now held by rival Jannik Sinner.
“It’s really hard not to think about it. Every time I go down the court, I try not to think about it. I think if I think too much about first place, I will end up putting pressure on myself, and I don’t want to do that. I just want to get on the field, try to do my part, pursue my goals and try to have as much fun as possible” he said in the postgame interview.
Alcaraz also revealed one way he relaxes: “Sometimes I look back at my games and my best spots. Every time I watch or review my shots, I think back to the moment of the match. Golf? It’s a hobby I enjoy, I won’t change this routine on days off”.
