Napoli, Sam Beukema also dreams of scoring in the Champions League

Having scored with the 3-0 goal in Saturday night’s match against Fiorentina, Sam Beukema, a defender by profession, has taken a liking to it and, from what transpires from his words to ‘Radio CRC’, he dreams of scoring more goals, perhaps starting with his Napoli’s Champions League debut against Manchester City in the match scheduled for Thursday at the Etihad Stadium.
“More goals from me? Hopefully! In my opinion it is an added value when a defender manages to help the team even with a few goals. For me it was a very good start, but I know I still have to improve a lot in all aspects. However, I hope to score more goals” said the Dutch defender, who arrived at Napoli this’summer after two seasons at Bologna.
On the start of the season of the team coached by Antonio Conte, Beukema added: “We started well, but there is still a long way to go. Next game we also start the Champions League, another good challenge, against Manchester City: we want to show that we are strong. It is a team that has a lot of quality, we have to be very careful in all aspects, with and without the ball, but we have to have the desire to play as always. I think we can have a good game”.
A 1998 class, Beukema made his senior debut in the 2017-2018 season with the Go Ahead Eagles, in the Dutch second league. With the Eagles he played for four years (also scoring 9 goals overall in the 2020-2021 season), before making the jump to the Eredivisie, signing with AZ’AZ. Two seasons at Alkmaar before joining Bologna, where he excelled with both Thiago Motta and Vincenzo Italiano at the helm. Last July 20 he moved to Napoli in exchange for 30 million plus another 3 million in bonuses, with a contract valid until 2030.
