Max Menetti compares Champions League to Tour de France

Pallacanestro Reggiana is ready for its European debut. The red-and-whites flew today to Bonn, where tomorrow night at 8 p.m. they will take the court in the first day of the 2022/2023 Basketball Champions League.

For UNAHOTELS this is the first time ever in the competition, after European experiences throughout its history in Korac Cup, FIBA Champions Cup, Uleb Cup, Eurochallenge (winning in 2014), Eurocup and FIBA Europe Cup, reaching the final in the last edition.

Reggio Emilia will be the tenth Italian lineup to participate in the BCL. Telekom Bonn, on the other hand, is at its fourth experience in the cup: its best result was the round of 16 reached in the 2019/2020 season, coming out defeated 2-0 by AEK Athens, whom they will meet again as an opponent in the round of this edition.

These are the words of coach Max Menetti from the Bonn retreat, where the team arrived in the early afternoon and will train in the evening: “If Saturday’s was the first stage of the Giro d’Italia, tomorrow begins for us what we can to all intents and purposes call our Tour de France. The first challenge puts us in front of one of the new ‘bigs’ of German basketball, a club with European experience that we have faced before in the Eurocup. The BCL teaches that, given the formula of the event, every game is of paramount importance to try to reach our goal, which is to get through the round. Therefore, we will have to be agonistically and technically ready for a tough and competitive challenge, trying to give continuity to Saturday’s good performance in the league.”

The match will be played at the Telekom Dome in Bonn and will be broadcast exclusively on Eleven Sports.

The trio appointed to direct the match consists of Oskars Lucis (Latvia), Igor Mitrovski (North Macedonia) and Ventsislav Velikov (Bulgaria).
