Jannik Sinner gets off on the right foot in the Shanghai Masters 1000, where he defends the title he won in 2024. The world number two beat German Daniel Altmaier, number 49 on the planet, in two sets with a score of 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 38 minutes of play.

The Blue, who didn&#8217t have to struggle too much on his debut on a very different court than in Beijing, will face in the third round of the Chinese tournament Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands, who overcame US player Brooksby in three sets.

The first set runs smoothly for the world number two, who finds the break in the third game and keeps it until the end. L’Azzurro has a moment of difficulty only in the eighth game, when he cancels two break points of the German, then closes quietly. In the second partial, the South Tyrolean took advantage of several free errors by his opponent to break serve in the second game. The San Candido champion’s serve remains impregnable and Sinner closes the second set well as well.

Three Italians thus make it to the round of 16 of the Shanghai tournament: in addition to Sinner, there are Luciano Darderi and Lorenzo Musetti, who will compete in the Italian derby to enter the round of 16. Out in the second round are Bellucci, Nardi, Cobolli and Arnaldi.
