In the aftermath of Adi Hütter&#8217s dismissal, which came a few days after the painful home draw against Nice, Monaco has fished from Belgium the name of its new coach: it is Sebastien Pocognoli, former fullback among others of Genk, AZ Alkmaar and Standard Liege, and winner as coach of his country&#8217s championship with Union Saint-Gilloise. It was a surprise choice by Pocognoli, who suddenly decided to leave the USG to embark on the journey to his new destination.

“AS Monaco is pleased to announce the arrival of Sebastien Pocognoli as its new coach. The Belgian coach, 38, has signed a contract with the Rouge & Blanc until June 2027” reads the official note from the Principality’s club, which thus turns the page after the Hütter management, which lasted just over two seasons.

The German, who arrived in Monaco with the goal of contesting domestic trophies with PSG and returning to a high level in the international arena, failed to add anything to the Monaco club&#8221s trophy cabinet, despite being brought back into the Champions League for two consecutive years. However, the relationship with the club had deteriorated, so much so that rumors of his exoneration had already spread a few days before the’officiality.

Pocognoli will make his debut on the bench in the league match on Saturday, Oct. 18, at home of Angers, while on Wednesday, Oct. 22, he will be on the bench in the Champions League home match against Tottenham. Monaco is also busy on a third front, the French Cup, which will see the Rouge & Blanc engaged from the 32nd final.
