Farewell to Jose Manuel Ochotorena, legendary Spanish goalkeeper

The soccer world says goodbye to Jose Manuel Ochotorena, one of the strongest and most legendary goalkeepers of the Spanish school. As reported by Marca, the’former number one of, among others, Real Madrid and Valencia, passed away at the age of 64 due to an illness that struck him in recent months.
In the ’80s, he was one of the world’s best goalkeepers. Awarded the Zamora Trophy (1988/89 season), he won La Liga three times, two editions of the Uefa Cup and also a Copa de la Liga, all wearing the Real Madrid jersey.
At the end of his playing career, he became one of the best athletic trainers Spain has ever had. He has worked with so many coaches, including Rafa Benitez. He was part of the technical staff of the Spanish national team for several years, participating in no less than three World Cup editions with the Red Furies (2004, 2014 and 2018).
Many messages of condolence paid tribute to Jose Manuel Ochotorena. Real Madrid, his former club, posted a message with a sentence that says so much about how well known his legend was among the blancos: “Uno de los porteros históricos de nuestro club”.
