Lorenzo Musetti as Jannik Sinner, the risk of another no to'Italy

Eight weeks of racing around the world in search of Finals qualification have left their mark on Lorenzo Musetti. A physical, technical, and emotional tour de force that has drained him, and now, on the eve of the decisive match against Carlos Alcaraz, the Carrara-based tennis player finds himself having to manage forces and priorities.

In fact, immediately after Turin, the Davis Cup awaits him: another week of intense commitments that, at the moment, looks like a difficult mountain to climb. Musetti would like to be there, but the final decision will be made together with captain Filippo Volandri and his team only after the Finals are over.

A cautious approach, in line with that taken by Jannik Sinner, who gave up Davis to give himself an extra week of rest and athletic preparation. Even for Musetti, back from a wearisome period, the chance to stop could be crucial to regain energy and prevent repercussions on the start of next season.

In the past month, the 22-year-old Italian has played six matches in seven days–seven with tomorrow’s–even facing a three-hour final against Djokovic in Athens before flying to Turin for the Masters tournament. Added to this is a not insignificant personal aspect: the imminent arrival of his second child.

Volandri and the staff are evaluating all these elements carefully: Italy’s lineup may be changed until Monday, and there is still some time to decide.
