“To the fans I can say: come and see us, it will be a battle, a show, a special day for volleyball”: are the words of Allianz Milano powerhouse Gabriele Di Martino when there are only three days left until Sunday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m., when at the Assago Forum President Lucio Fusaro’s team will take on the Italian champions Itas Trentino in a match that promises spectacle.
Milano and Trento, two healthy teams, Allianz fifth on 13 points and Trento third on 15, both coming off convincing performances: the Trentino team beat Sir Safety Conad Perugia at home, while the meneghini got right on the road against Cisterna Volley for their fourth consecutive success. Of course, both teams still have to do without two key players due to injuries, Azzurro Daniele Lavia for Trento and Belgian setter Seppe Rotty for Milan. On the bench are two volleyball gurus at the international level: Roberto Piazza for Milan and Marcelo Mendez for Trento, an Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo 2020 with Argentina.
But back to Di Martino’s words: “The game against Trento will definitely be a battle for us: we come from a super positive trend and a very busy week. We have had time to recover, focus and work on our fundamentals. Personally, I have never played at the Assago Forum: I have always entered that arena as a spectator and it will definitely be exciting to play there. I know ticket sales are going great. To the fans I can say: come and see us, it will be a battle, a show, a special day with an attentive and full arena. Technically we will meet a very strong team, with a very technical diagonal and the usual Micheletto, who is one of the strongest players in the world. We as I said are coming from a positive trend, we have a lot of confidence and we are looking forward to this match”.
On the Trentino side, Gabi Garcia, opposite of Itas, warns: “It will be a very difficult match, because our opponents are in a good moment of form. We have to forget about the good win with Perugia and stay focused on our goal: to grow both as a game and as a team idea”.
