Sebastian Vettel makes a bitter confession

There are only four Grand Prix separating Sebastian Vettel and his farewell to Formula 1. The Aston Martin driver is back to talk about his decision and what he expects after retirement.

The four-time world champion spoke to Aston Martin channels like this, “I still love the sport and racing. The decision to retire was difficult, but I have been thinking about it for a while. I know how much commitment this sport requires and I feel the time is right to do other things. There will probably come a time when no one will remember me. Nothing lasts forever. People can decide if they want to remember me, but I wouldn’t be offended if they didn’t. It is not important to me how I am remembered. I try to treat people with respect and be kind. If that is what people remember about me, then I am happy.”

“There are many lessons I learned from Formula 1,” the former Ferrari driver continued, “then whether you want to learn them is up to you. Being a Formula 1 driver is an accelerated way of living your life. I think that applies to most professional sportsmen, really. There is everything that happens in normal life, but it is more compressed in terms of time and years. I had to mature earlier than my friends in school because I was taking my racing career very seriously and dealing with a lot of adults: if I wanted to achieve something, I had to work hard and be disciplined.”

Sebastian Vettel was the first driver to win a world championship with Red Bull. The German put everyone in line for four years in a row, from 2010 to 2013. The Austrian stable returned to success in 2021 thanks to Dutchman Max Verstappen, with the son of art repeating the following year. If there was a battle to the last in 2021, that was not the case in 2022.
