Rumors from Egypt and Tunisia about Fabio Lopez after his exploits in Liberia

The Egypt hypothesis is emerging for Fabio Lopez. The globetrotting coach, a key player in Fassell’s revival in Liberia’s top flight, has landed on the radar of Haras El-Hodood of Alexandria, a club that would be considering a change on the bench during the league break for the African Cup of Nations. Watch out, however, for Tunisia as well, with a couple of clubs considering changes ahead of the resumption of the tournament: the Roman’s name is also circulating.

Fassell, in mid-November, chose to rely on the Roman coach, an experienced profile accustomed to international contexts. The team was coming from a complicated period, marked by negative results and an uneasy climate. However, Lopez immediately impressed a sharp turnaround: first, he gave balance to the defensive phase, with three consecutive matches without conceding goals, then he upped the tempo, centering three victories in a row, including a clear 3-0 win against Down Town. These successes were complemented by another deadlocked draw that allowed Fassell to move even closer to the summit, occupied by Watanga.

In the space of a few days, the standings changed dramatically. The “Soccer Missionaries” have risen from eighth to third place and now look with ambition to the top positions, on the strength of a solid defense and a more continuous and incisive game. Born in 1973, a Roman and former goalkeeper, Lopez has built much of his career away from Italy: in addition to his experience as Bangladesh’s technical commissioner, with whom he played in the World Cup qualifiers, he has coached in Lithuania, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Vietnam and, most recently, South Africa.

They are now looking forward to a more consistent and more incisive game.
