Robin Gosens, touching backstory related to grandmother’s death

Robin Gosens in the course of his podcast Wie Geht’s? revealed a backstory of this season so troubled for all of Fiorentina but for him in particular, also for extra-football reasons: “When we were last in the standings my grandmother died. I followed the funeral on facetime because I felt guilty leaving the team alone on the day of the game against Inter’s game. I didn’t say anything to Pioli (it was Oct. 29 and he was still the coach of the Viola, ed.) because he’s a very empathetic person and he would have definitely let me go to Germany, but we were playing at 8:45 p.m. and at 4 p.m. there was the funeral: my father called me on facetime during the whole service”.
By the way, it was against the Nerazzurri in the very match they lost 3-0 two weeks before the change of coach that Gosens picked up an injury that forced him to sit out for several shifts: “I wanted to be there at all costs but I was not serene. However, I believe that if you are last, you are a footballer responsible for the misery that the team is putting on the field. But when you are not serene on a mental level, you are not serene on a physical level either. In fact after 70 minutes ‘bam’ muscle fiber injury”.
Gosens was obviously hoping for a whole other season: “We started out wanting to go to the Champions League and found ourselves struggling in the relegation zone. I earn, so I feel responsible. But even feeling responsible I think one should always be clear what is the right path and what are the choices to be made. I should have talked about it instead of keeping it to myself. Also because with that’injury I was out for quite some time”.
Edin Dzeko meanwhile is about to leave Fiorentina: having arrived on a zero-parameter basis last summer, the Bosnian bomber has severely disappointed by scoring just two goals (both in the Conference League) in eighteen appearances and is on his way out in January.
The former Roma forward has signed a €2 million one-year contract and his immediate departure will allow the Tuscan club to save money in view of the squad revolution that will take place in the coming months. Fabio Paratici is already at work, and two interesting offers have reportedly arrived on his table.
