Torino market, Marco Baroni takes big risks: decisive Sunday

Marco Baroni is risking big and cannot allow Torino to run into more missteps if he does not want a rotation to come about: the very heavy defeat suffered by the granata on the Como field already has a first consequence, with the team that as early as Monday will go into training camp to prepare for the next championship challenge, Sunday, Feb. 1, at home with Lecce, one of the teams coached in the past by the Florentine coach.

For Torino the triple whistle finally arrives, while Como celebrates a crushing victory.

“I take responsibility for this defeat – said Baroni, in no uncertain terms, at the end of the Sinigaglia match -I don’t think about the absentees, we faced a stronger and brighter team than us, mentally and physically. After the penalty we practically walked off the field. I am not disappointed with the players, I take it on myself: I am the person who has to find solutions”.

For the moment, however, Baroni is safe, as he himself stressed after the triple whistle. “I have never felt so much confidence, they even reiterated it to me,” he said. A time-bound confidence, though…

Torino, after 22 league games, has accumulated 23 points, scoring 21 goals and conceding 40, making it the worst defense in the entire Serie A at the final whistle of the match against Como.

The granata have had an anonymous season so far in the league, but are still in contention on the Coppa Italia front, a trophy they have won five times, most recently in the 1992-93 season. Toro, in the Cup, has beaten Modena, Pisa and, most recently, Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, and in the quarterfinals will face Atalanta, in the same part of the table that also has Bologna and Lazio involved.
