Good news regarding Michela Moioli. Despite a violent blow to the head suffered in training on Thursday, the Italian took sixth in the snowboardcross seeding round at the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, immediately securing access to the final round. The Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic gold medalist finished with a 1″34 gap from the best, Czech Adamczykova, ahead of France’s Casta (+0″50) and Switzerland’s Wiedmer (+0″83). A significant result, especially in light of the accident that occurred 24 hours earlier.

In Milan Cortina, where the Winter Olympics are taking place, it has been a spectacular but also very hard week for some athletes.
Terrible the'injury happened to Lindsey Vonn.
The U.S. champion got a multiple fracture in her left tibia.
Promptly rescued she underwent more than one surgery.
Gaon Choi, a South Korean snowboarder who specializes in the'halfpipe, was the protagonist of a bad fall.
The injury looked serious, but fortunately it wasn&#039t. And then she won the'gold.
There were scary moments for Canadian Megan Oldham as well.
Great apprehension there'was also for Liu Jiayu.
Thankfully nothing broken after the ruinous fall into the'half-pipe.
Big scare also for one'other Canadian, Elizabeth Hosking.
Dane Menzies got away with no damage after bumping into snow.
The'Italian Maria Gassliter avoided the worst by using her arms.

New Zealand’s Luca Harrington recovered immediately and also took bronze.

Interviewed by RAI, l’Azzurra reassured everyone about her condition, diluting the tension with a hint of irony: “I don&#8217t have anything on my face, do I? – she joked -No need to show all of Italy what happened in training: the important thing is to be here, in one piece. They put me back together, albeit with a few scratches. It’s awareness, fun and giving it my all that counts. That’s what I will do in the next few hours.”

Moioli added, “Qualifying is not my favorite part of the race, so I’m satisfied. After the head bump I’m not 100 percent, but I am who I am, and that’s okay.” The first-ever Olympian in Italy&#8217s snowboard cross history and with three World Cups in her trophy cabinet (2016, 2018 and 2020), in March 2025 on the snow of Engadine, Moioli also won the rainbow gold, the last missing title in her collection.

Space champion and twinkling star in the international firmament, she also has six other world podiums on her palmarès, in addition to the silver won in Beijing 2022 in the mixed team paired with Omar Visintin. She hails from Bergamo like great friend Sofia Goggia and, with the skier, shares a soccer faith for Atalanta and the drive to restart after a fall or a bad injury.

Alessandro Haemmerle, in the men&#8217s snowboard cross event, crossed the finish line ahead of everyone, repeating the gold medal he already won four years ago in the Beijing 2022 edition. The Austrian in the big final sprinted ahead of Canada&#8217s Eliot Grondin at the finish line, with Jacob Dusek, another Austrian, third and climbed to the bottom step of the podium with the bronze medal around his neck. Best of the Italians, Lorenzo Sommariva, eighth after the elimination suffered in the semifinals and fourth place in the Small Final. And who at the end of the test did not hide some disappointment.
