Argentina, Boca Juniors champion thanks to River goalkeeper
Big party at the Bombonera
A championship finale full of twists and turns. Boca Juniors won the Argentine title and succeeded thanks to hated rivals River Plate. Boca, in fact, has to thank River goalkeeper Armani who, in the match’s finale, rejected the penalty kicked by Galvan that would have delivered the championship into Racing’s hands.
The final Argentine championship standings speak for themselves: Boca Juniors first with 52 points (2-2 in the last game with Independiente), Racing (a team linked to Prince Diego Milito) second with 50 points, and River Plate third with 47 total points. At the Bombonera, big celebration. For once, River Plate was “friends” with the Xeneizes. For Boca Juniors it was title number 35 in the league.
