Sky commentator Guido Meda at the microphones of inSella.it makes the cards at the upcoming MotoGp World Championship, starting in less than two weeks.
Everyone is waiting for
Valentino Rossi after the bitter disappointment of last season: “There is a small advantage of Lorenzo over Rossi, however, I really trust the analytical and perfectionist approach that Rossi has towards even testing. If you look at the pace of the two, there is not all that much difference. Certainly Lorenzo, with his smooth braking and cornering in big runs, has a bit of an advantage with Michelin, as does Pedrosa for that matter, but I definitely don’t expect a Rossi who, because he’s turned 37, then he’s out of the running.”
The Doctor will have to rely heavily on strategy and experience: “Surely it will be really difficult for him to replicate a season like last year, leading from the first to the last race except then losing the world championship, however, never as this year he will have to appeal to his intelligence and strategic skills. Never as this year will he have to avoid losing his temper, even though he will probably be faced with some provocation. The same goes for Marquez and Lorenzo, because clearly that trio will no longer get along, but I also expect that we will not pull this thing on each other.”
“A race like the one in Malaysia in my opinion we won’t see again,” he continued. “Sport is also made up of rivalries, the healthier and fairer the better, but removing rivalry at the root means taking away from the sport a foundational part of its being.
Prediction: “I don’t know, I’ve never liked making them. Last year I was among those who didn’t predict a Rossi in the lead from the first race to the last race, and I found myself telling instead. My recondite hope is that, that he can pull it off to win a 10th title, but if I told you that all the rational elements were pushing that way, I would be telling you a lie. It’s either Valentino, or Lorenzo, or Marquez. It would be a dream to restart like we did in Qatar last year.”
On the Doctor’s future: “Will he renew? I think so, but I am perhaps the least likely to ask because I can’t imagine the day when he will say enough. Vale is in great shape, the prospect is to renew for two more years, it seems to me that he is not fed up, if it had to happen it could happen with the end of last year and it did not happen. You have to get to mid-season to know, but I think he will renew.”
