ATP Montreal, Canadian government takes clear stance on Novak Djokovic
No waivers for the Serbian champion
While waiting to find out whether he will be able to take part in the Us Open in the United States, Novak Djokovic has collected a flat ‘no’ from the government of neighboring Canada, which will not grant waivers to the vaccination pass required for athletes registered for the Montreal ATP, scheduled to start next Aug. 5.
“Djokovic will have to make his peace with it and take the vaccine,” are the words of Canadian Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos. “The rules are the same for everyone, the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over.
Djokovic is fresh from his Wimbledon success in the final played on Centre Court against Australia’s Nick Kyrgios. In Britain, there were no restrictions on those unvaccinated against the coronavirus, while restrictions are still in place in North America.
