Alex Zanardi discharged from Vicenza hospital: the words of the head physician

Comforting news for the Bologna champion, his family members and all fans

After 76 days of hospitalization, Alex Zanardi was able to leave the hospital in Vicenza to return home. This was reported by ‘Il Giornale di Vicenza,’ which at the same time published some statements made by Dr. Giannettore Bertagnoni, head of the Rehabilitation Department – Spinal Unit and Severe Cerebral Lesions Unit at San Bortolo.

“The patient has been stabilized,” said the doctor. “In these months our main goal has been to stabilize Zanardi’s general clinical condition. But, at the same time, we have continued the rehabilitation program followed during the first period of hospitalization.”

Dr. Bertagnoni assured that the Vicenza hospital would remain a “point of reference” for Zanardi’s needs. The Bologna-born champion had been forced into hospitalization after a fire compromised the solar panels that enabled the functionality of rehabilitation machinery at his home in Noventa Padovana.
