Jonathan Rea is about to catch up with Giacomo Agostini: “I want to overtake him.”
Jonathan Rea won race 1 of the Superbike round at Phillip Island and counts 121 career rainbow wins
Kawasaki centaur Jonathan Rea at Phillip Island broke a fast of 24 consecutive races without a win. The British rider won a race 1 in Australia heavily conditioned by track conditions, in which he was perfect and got ahead of his rivals: “Ragzatlioglu followed me, Bautista didn’t, so I knew my rival for the win would be Toprak. Once I got back on the track I saw my lead increasing, so I just tried to manage and not make mistakes, since it was still a little wet in some parts. I’m really happy,” he said after the race.
Thanks to this win, Rea rose to 121 total career rainbow wins, just -2 from Agostini’s record: “It’s a statistic I’ve been paying attention to, and I know the guys have had something ready for a while. If I didn’t get to 123, it’s the fault of Toprak and Alvaro, who have been really fast and concrete this year.”
