Wishes for the future, but also harsh words from former team principal to former team principal.

Mattia Binotto has left Ferrari after 28 years of experience, during which he also worked with Stefano Domenicali: before, during and after the latter’s experience as Team Principal. And the very man who has since become CEO of Formula 1 spoke about his successor, combining words of solidarity with some very harsh ones.

“If you come second in Ferrari, it’s not enough,” Domenicali in fact explained to the Britons of ‘Sky Sports News,’ to whom he spoke on the sidelines of the presentation of ‘F1 Arcade.’ However, I do not intend to go into the internal situations of the team. I certainly want to wish Binotto the best for his future.”

Domenicali then recalled his own experience at Ferrari, adding direct advice to Binotto himself: “I found myself in the same situation as him several years ago. My wish for him is to stay focused and believe in himself. However, I also hope that Ferrari will find the optimal situation for its future.”

“Compared to the situation two years ago, the steps forward have already been remarkable. But in Formula 1 we need a competitive Ferrari, whose drivers battle on an equal footing with the big boys. To see them fighting with Red Bull and Mercedes is more than a dream, and I am convinced it will happen,” Domenicali concluded.
