Giuliano Razzoli injured, no night race in Austria
Giuliano Razzoli out
Tuesday night will be the turn of the “Night race,” the night slalom in Schladming that always knows how to give big thrills to fans and athletes who can play their cards for an important result on the Planai. This year, the “Night race” will also be followed by a night giant slalom, making up for the cancelled race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
There will be six Italian skiers at the start, due to the forfeit of Giuliano Razzoli, who must recover from the severe back pain that struck him on the eve of the Kitzbuehel slalom. Tommaso Sala, Alex Vinatzer, Stefano Gross, Simon Maurberger, Tobias Kastlunger and Tommaso Saccardi will be there.
The last Italian podium finish on the Planai is by Gross, who was second in 2015, repeating the same placing he achieved three years earlier. Two podiums also for Manfred Moelgg: third in 2008 and second in 2004. The only two Italian victories are due to Alberto Tomba, who triumphed in ’97 and repeated in ’98. Previously, Konrad Kurt Ladstaetter’s third place in 1990 and Piero Gros’ in 1975 are worth mentioning.
