European Volleyball Championships, the final will be in Rome
Volleyball in Rome
The venue for the European Championship Finals will be Rome and no longer Bologna as previously announced. The Eternal City, therefore, will be the stage where the top four teams of the 2023 Men’s European Championships will meet to play semifinals and finals scheduled on September 14 and 16, respectively. The matches will be played in the splendid and historic setting of the Palazzo dello Sport, a location that saw Italy triumph in the 2005 continental review ahead of Russia and Serbia Montenegro.
Bologna, which was originally scheduled to host the final phase of the competition, will instead host the inaugural match scheduled for Aug. 28 that will pit the hosts World Champion Italy and the “Red Dragons” of Belgium against each other. The match will be played at the Unipol Arena, a facility that has already hosted the Finals of the past edition of the men’s Volleyball Nations League.
Rome will be the protagonist not only of the final phase of the European Championships; in fact, in parallel with the sports event, the Capital will also host the Gala that will be organized to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CEV.
