First medal for the Italian expedition at the European Track Cycling Championships in Grenchen. In Switzerland, 1994-year-old Simone Consonni, already gold at Tokyo 2020 in the team pursuit as well as at the Roubaix 2021 World Championships, took the top step of the podium in the points race.

A perfectly orchestrated race by the cyclist from Ponte San Pietro, who was able to put behind Frenchman Grondin and Spaniard Torres, silver and bronze medalists respectively.

Consonni’s is the first medal of a day that could become a triumphant one for the Italian colors: for Italy, in fact, both the men’s and women’s team pursuit lineups have detached the pass for the final, where both boys and girls will compete against Great Britain for the gold.
