Palermo knocked out at Marassi, Genoa increasingly second in Serie B
One goal per half to cement second place in the standings.
Genoa beat Palermo 2-0 at the Marassi in a top-of-the-table challenge that could have reshuffled the cards ahead of direct promotion to Serie A. Goals by Gudmundsson in the 25th minute and Jagiello as time expired, however, allowed the hosts to maintain second place in the standings, momentarily taking them to +4 points from third-placed Reggina. The Rosanero lineup remains in sixth place for the time being.
Open and balanced challenge in the first minutes, with Palermo trying to build its chances and Genoa responding. After a miraculous save by Sala on Coda, however, the Rosanero could do nothing about the insertion of Gudmundsson who beat Pigliacelli in the 25th minute. At the beginning of the second half the Var cancelled out the double to the same Icelandic, in the final minute it was instead Martinez who hypnotized Soleri who missed the equalizer. Gudmundsson also hits a crossbar, then in the 96th minute Jagiello doubles on a counterattack.
