Jannik Sinner criticized, Bertolucci blurts out, “I am speechless.”
Former Italian tennis player and current Sky Sport commentator Paolo Bertolucci in an interview with Oasport defended Jannik Sinner, who came under the crosshairs of critics after his forfeit in Barcelona.
The Italian tennis player left the Catalan tournament in the quarterfinals before his match with Musetti, and many have criticized his staff’s scheduling of the season: “So many do not know what they are talking about because going to Barcelona made perfect sense to give continuity to the matches played on red before a due break. What was he supposed to do? Not go to Barcelona, stop for a week then, and then do Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros and the grass season all in one go, regardless of what he did in February/March? Are you kidding me?”
“Here now they are all experts in athletic preparation,” Bertolucci continued, “in programming, and they are suggesting to Sinner that it was better not to do Barcelona because with that week off he could do a whole run up to Wimbledon. I really remain speechless. He did not do well, but very well. He has 18 days to prepare and do the best he can what matters most for a tennis player of his caliber, but here we are doing the math, about the 90 points he loses etc….”
