Dinamo Sassari, Jack Devecchi announces retirement: ‘But I’m staying here’
Dinamo Sassari flag Jack Devecchi announced his farewell in a press conference, “We decided together with the club to have this conference two days before the end of the regular season. These will not be just any two games for me, Reggio is the team that reminds me of the strongest emotions in a Dinamo jersey over the years. With them we raised the Cup with captain Vanuzzo. And the last one will be Milan, which has a special flavor for me because it is the team where so many years ago I made my debut.”
“They will be two exciting challenges for me and it seemed the right opportunity to announce my retirement at the end of the season. After more than 30, 17 of them in Sassari, it feels right. A choice made with a smile on my face. It is certainly a special situation, a long journey that has brought me since 2006 to what I consider my home. Never would I have imagined to achieve all these satisfactions with this jersey. Sassari represented the top for me, between Italy and Europe. They have been important seasons, full of victories and defeats and a lot of sweat. Fortunately with more successes than anything else.”
“I thank all those who have accompanied me over these years and I apologize for the emotion of these hours. I thank all the teammates and coaches who have taught me so much. I thank the entire Dinamo Sassari family. I thank the Mele family who brought me to this amazing land. All of Sardinia will always be in my heart. I thank Stefano Sardara who has been a life partner for me and not just a president.”
Devecchi will stay with the club: “We have chosen with Stefano Sardara, and I stress that we have very clear ideas, that we will say only at the end of the season my new role. The first person I told about retirement was him among other things. Now head for the playoffs because it is right. By now I am from Sassari, I have a home here and I will stay here even after I quit of course. My second skin is white-blue and there is no alternative.”
