Ferrari, historic victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans
Historic victory for Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Maranello-based team won the centennial edition of the famous French race, in which it returned to participate after a 50-year absence.
At the wheel of the Ferrari 499P were Italians Alessandro Pier Guidi and Antonio Giovinazzi, as well as Briton James Calado. The trio preceded the Toyota trio, which had won the prestigious endurance race last year.
Ferrari had not won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for 58 years: for the Cavallino it was the tenth overall victory after triumphs in 1949, 1954, 1958, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, and 1965. The other Ferrarista team of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen finished fifth, delayed in the night by an intervention on the car that prevented the crew from being in contention for the podium.
