Virtus Bologna: less budget but Achille Polonara more
Polonara played the latter part of last season at Zalgiris.
Virtus Bologna has decided to limit investments. As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, there will be a sharp cut in the budget dedicated to salaries: from 24 million to 16 million. The payroll needs to be reduced, and this was immediately understood with the goodbyes of Teodosic, Ojelele, Weems, Jaiteh and Mannion.
Cost savings are needed but without losing anything in terms of competitiveness. Work is being done to find an agreement with Belinelli (likely a one-season renewal) and also with Abass. Then there would be a new market target, namely Polonara.
The Italian has already been approached by the Vere Nere in the recent past but this could be the right time. Coming off four seasons spent away from Italy (the last few months he played for Zalgiris), Polonara seems ready to shine again in his home league. Virtus Bologna is hoping to find a way to dress him in the Virtus Bologna jersey. Coach Scariolo could greatly benefit from the Italian national player.
