The wait is over, off to the assaults. In Milan, it’s the eve of the Absolute World Fencing Championships, scheduled for July 22-30 at the Allianz MiCo Milan. This afternoon, at the impressive Sala Alessi of Palazzo Marino in Milan, a press conference was held to present the event in the presence of Martina Riva, Councillor for Sport, Tourism and Youth Policies City of Milan, Lara Magoni, Undersecretary for Sport and Youth Presidency Lombardy Region, Claudia Colla, Head of the European Commission Representation in Milan, Emmanuel Katsiadakis, FIE Interim President, Marco Fichera, President of the Organizing Committee Milano

Milan is ready to welcome thousands of fans and more than 2,000 people, including athletes and staff members, from 116 countries for a major international event valid for Qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Great expectations obviously for Italian fencing after the record-breaking European Championships a few weeks ago between Plovdiv and Krakow, where six out of six of Italy’s teams won a medal.
After the 2011 edition in Catania, great international fencing returns to Italy and, for the first time, will be hosted in Milan, a city rich in tradition, innovation and culture. For the occasion, the arena’s press room will be named after historic fencing champion Edoardo Mangiarotti. The World Fencing Championships will not only be a competition but also a big party for everyone with the Arco della Pace becoming Medal Plaza: a unique space created in collaboration with CONI that will exceptionally bring Casa Italia. From July 25 it will be open to the public, with free admission.

Special recognition will be given to the master class: prizes for the technicians of the winning athletes will be dedicated to the memory of masters who have made the history of Italian and international fencing such as Di Rosa, Di Ciolo, Perone, Zub, Kulkzar and Putyatin. Special awards will be dedicated to the memory of masters Lodetti and Volpini.
